Lono and I are getting serious

It’s February and I thought it’s high time I revisited my Lono addiction. It is clear that Lono and I are getting serious. As I was thinking which of my two Lono Flow darlings I should take for a photoshoot this time to prepare an honest recap of my Lono dating so far, considering adding another pair to my modest collection, it just occurred to me we haven’t really had a proper holiday yet. And since Ben is absolutely ignoring my request to produce bright, pastel colours, or at least bring back the divine green, I seriously felt I needed some new passionate spark in my Lono love life. So instead of waiting for Ben to meet my secret desires I decided to take Lono to Okinawa. Just Lono and I surrounded by natural beauty. I explained to Lono that I have feelings for Okinawa too, but it’s purely platonic and there’s nothing to worry about. Here’s how we rolled!

My exotic lovemaking with Lono

While I went with Lono to Manila you could hardly describe this trip as romantic. We walked a lot and Lono stood by me but from all the dirt and bad stuff you encounter on the infamously intricate Manila streets, the only thing I had on my mind was that my Lonos would need a good wash. I therefore decided to make it up to my darling and we set off to Okinawa, Ishigaki. Clearly a much more suitable destination for a long overdue honeymoon. This place certainly deserves a separate post, so stay tuned. But when it comes to Lono, the holiday was exactly as it should be.

Performance and Durability

Roads, forests, beaches, villages, towns, we did it all and we loved it. Lono as an incredibly light shoe really enhanced the island experience. Ishigaki, as most Japanese places, is pristine. So unlike Manila, walking here will only accentuate the already divine sensation. Anywhere I took Lono, it felt great. So far, performance wise

it’s hard to beat this shoe!

Of course, I don’t think it’s suitable for some serious tracks with an increasingly difficult terrain. For example, we wanted to hike the Arakawa falls but once I saw that it would involve jumping across large slippery stones, I quickly changed my mind and retired to the safety of casual island exploration. Indeed, wet, slippery or potentially unstable terrain is not what Lonos are made for.

And that’s fine!

The unbearably bearable lightness of being

There was one more high-level spot where I chose not to wear Lonos. I am sure I did the right thing as it involved climbing severely steep and uneven terrain while holding onto branches. Lono would provide flexibility for sure, but not the ankle stability such a terrain needs.

Take away: Lono is as light as a feather and that’s why you should always match your activities to their purpose to avoid unpleasant surprises.

Is improved leg strength real?

Lono promises on their website improved leg strength. Precisely 60% in 6 months. Honestly, guys, I have no idea. I can’t tell if my legs are stronger or not. My calves look pretty much the same as they did back in July 2024 when I first purchased Lono – you should really read my passionate story about becoming a Lono enthusiast. What’s more, I am a firm believer in active lifestyle. So, I really don’t see how a shoe could improve your leg strength. But to be fair,

it certainly wasn’t and never will be the selling point for me!

The best part about Lono Flow is the unbeatable freedom of movement

The best part about Lono so far?

In fact, what I love about Lono the most is the absolutely and perfectly unbeatable freedom of movement. That’s what keeps my infatuation running deeper and deeper. Once you try these shoes on,

you don’t want anything else!

Since my first Lono experience, I have started paying more attention to barefoot products. And indeed, I am forever sold. In my first article I claimed every step is heavenly and it still totally holds. Luckily I am too free-spirited to follow fashionable trends and mature enough to pretend I am somebody I am not. Thank God!!!  But in the past I did occasionally succumb to the ludicrous idea that you must suffer if you want to look the part. Such nonsense!

Therefore, I ended up wearing some ridiculously uncomfortable, tight and feet squeezing shoes that only made me return home in excruciating pain. How silly I was! And the waste of money! If only I knew then what I know today...

The truth is that I am now at a stage where

I can’t go back to almost any type of shoes!  Even sneakers I used to wear feel weird and too tight. If only Lono started making ankle boots because then Lono and I would certainly be up for even more serious commitment!

Respect the natural shape of your feet

Good bye bunions!

When talking about pain and wrong choices in footwear, I can’t not mention hallux valgus, the ugly Latin term for even an uglier toe deformation. They say never regret anything. But I honestly do regret not being more aware earlier. I regret the times when I put my feet into seemingly fashionable but totally unnaturally shaped shoes.

I sacrificed my own health and comfort.

Some damage done already but putting a stop to it now

I suffered to please outsiders. I foolishly tried to fit in some prescribed dogmas. The market doesn’t help either. It makes us believe that this is the norm. NO! It isn’t and shouldn’t be. Today, and after falling in love with Lono, I know how unnecessary this was. Therefore, as a lady myself, I would like to appeal to girls and women out there to think twice about what they wear on their feet. Heels and toe-squeezing shoes are the culprit here.

Just imagine what it will do in the long run.

Men should be careful too, of course, but their footwear options are generally much more forgiving and seem to align more with the natural shape of their feet.

Solution to bunions?

I personally feel that the only way to prevent this unpleasant deformation is wearing appropriate footwear. And starting as early as possible!

Lono couldn’t be a more suitable fit.

The comfort these shoes offer is unbeatable. I am only hoping that more and more people will understand how important comfortable footwear is and how barefoot shoes can benefit not only their feet but also their overall wellbeing. Please remember that bunions are sadly irreversible.

So, ladies & guys, stay alert and think twice! …which brings me to another important point I love about Lono

Lono Flow fits any style

Unisex and Stylish to the core

Aside from the fact that Lono protects the natural shape of your feet, it is also proudly unisex. Love it! And it simply fits any style! That goes particularly for the Grey, Black and White Lono Flow, which are also my most favourite so far! In today’s multicultural and globalised world, it should be fine to wear anything that underlines your style and character. I am sad to see that in many companies you still need to maintain a strict dress code. Luckily, my job allows me to wear Lono Flow. While it advertises heavily as a shoe for outdoor and indoor sports enthusiasts, I say it can be worn for almost any occasion! Honestly, you can’t go wrong with grey, white and black.

Therefore, as a proud Lono promoter, I combine it with casual and smart. Trousers, short and long skirts, feminine or sportive, it all works. Trust me, every time I wear Lono Flow, I look great. What’s more, these shoes really improve your confidence. I am sure they could match a male suit too, if properly styled.

So, you’ve got to love this totally multiple purpose nature of Lono Flow!

Summing it up

After more than 6 months with Lono, I still rave about it the same way I did in my first post. I think this is the shoe of the future. Certainly my future! I only hope Lono will keep bringing more variety to their already quite impressive collection. I feel that so far, Lono plays it safe in terms or colours and shapes, which is fine. It still offers a great range to you, all the barefoot aficionados out there. But I personally would like to see a braver attitude to colours, so let’s see what the future holds.

And if you fancy trying LONO Flow or any of the amazing Lono models, you can do so in the Lono shop.
